The GC as First Responder: Building Your Company's Cybersecurity Readiness Before the Breach Hits

A single breach can trigger regulatory scrutiny, contractual exposure, investor pressure, and public response within hours. Yet most legal teams, especially solo GCs and small legal teams without a dedicated security function, don't have the documentation, relationships, or internal alignment in place before that moment arrives. It's not a question of if your company gets hit; it's when. This session gives you a practical framework for what to build now, so your response is controlled rather than chaotic when it counts.
Topics include:
- Setting up external relationships in advance: breach counsel, forensics partners, and the agreements that shouldn't be negotiated mid-crisis
- Mapping your regulatory exposure and reporting obligations, including SEC cyber rules, NIS2, and DORA for global companies
- Building a cross-functional crisis communications plan and a clear RACI before you need either
- Managing vendor and supply-chain exposure through contract terms when the breach originates outside your walls
- What changes for a solo GC or two-person legal team with no in-house security function to lean on

This program is eligible for up to 1.25 hours of CLE credit in 50-minute states and 1 hour of CLE credit in 60-minute states.
Credit hours are estimated and are subject to each state’s approval and credit rounding rules. This course is appropriate for experienced attorneys only. The L Suite has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board and the State Bar of California as an Accredited Provider of continuing legal education. We have also recently received accreditation in Illinois and Texas. Additionally, we will seek CLE accreditation in WA, FL, PA, CO, GA, and any of the other 50 states by selecting your jurisdiction in the affidavit form received from the ABA. Canadian participants may use their certificates to submit for credit directly to the Law Society of British Columbia, the Law Society of Ontario, and the Maison du Barreau du Quebec.
