The Legal Role Rewritten: Skills, Structures, and Team Design for the AI-Enabled Enterprise
As AI becomes embedded in legal workflows, legal teams are beginning to reassess not only which tools they need, but which roles they need at all. The traditional assumptions around commercial counsel, legal operations, contract support, outside counsel management, and legal technology ownership are shifting as lawyers and operations professionals increasingly use AI to draft, review, route, analyze, and manage work. This session will explore how European legal teams are rethinking legal roles for the AI-enabled enterprise, including when to hire a generalist, when to bring in legal operations or legal engineering expertise, what technical fluency now belongs in a legal role, and how team design should change as technology becomes part of the work itself.

Buy, Build, or Retire: Rethinking Legal Tech in the AI Era
AI is changing the traditional build-versus-buy conversation for legal teams. As general-purpose AI tools, agentic workflows, and legal-specific platforms become more capable, legal leaders need to decide where specialist legal technology still adds value, where internal configuration can solve the problem, and where existing tools may no longer justify their cost or complexity. This roundtable will explore how European legal teams are making those decisions across contract management, outside counsel management, billing, intake, negotiation support, workflow automation, and other core legal operations processes.
Legal Ops Hack-a-Thon: From Use Case to Prototype
In this hands-on session, participants will work in small groups to build a first-draft AI workflow prototype for a real legal operations challenge selected with attendee input in advance. Using a guided build template, each group will draft the actual components needed to test the workflow, such as intake questions, routing rules, prompt sequences, review criteria, escalation triggers, or user instructions. Groups will also identify the human review points, data requirements, ownership model, success metrics, and European implementation considerations needed to move the prototype from the room into practice. The exercise is designed to be useful for lean teams looking to test a practical workflow quickly, as well as mature legal operations teams thinking through how to scale, govern, and measure AI-enabled processes across a larger environment.
