Pressure Test: Leading Legal In an Unprecedented Era
TechGC’s exclusive Executive Offsite for the most experienced GCs and CLOs in tech returns, hosted by Co-Chairs Scott Buell (CLO @ VAST Data) and Lily Lim (GC @ River AI). This unprecedented era of change has changed the pace, the stakes, and the shape of the GC role. Deals are bigger and faster, the role keeps evolving, and the next 12 months feel like they'll decide the next five. It's time to step back and ask: what does this seat demand now?
Over 3 days, some of the most tenured tech legal leaders will dig into:
- New deal structures: acquihires, IP licensing, compute commitments, and where counsel earns their seat before and after close
- The growing mandate: deciding what to own, what to push back on, and how to lead functions where you're not the expert
- Fit for the seat: how each company stage may need a different leader, and who will tell you the truth about whether you’re still the right person for the job
- Pace and pressure: protecting your judgment and your health when every deal feels make-or-break
- Building the team: hiring in the AI era, and keeping your best people when the equity promise fades
- AI in practice: scaling and governing homegrown tools, and keeping autonomous agents in bounds
- Unique paths to the GC seat: the interim roles, sideways moves, and surprises that got you here
Through candid, off-the-record conversations, peers will share war stories on what's worked and what hasn't, plus practical approaches to take back to your team. Join us at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, overlooking the Pacific, for a chance to step back from the daily sprint, connect with your closest peers, and focus on what's next.
The Conference will take place at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport, CA.
We have negotiated a discounted nightly rate starting at $550 + taxes and fees. The room block will close on Friday, October 2, 2026, or when sold out, whichever happens first. The booking link will be sent in your confirmation email.
